RETROMANIA

A gaming event to be ordered, delivered, set up and collected

At Retromania, we enjoy spending time with old favourites

What’s it like to play computer games from an era when the pixels were large, the sounds came from beeping speakers, and every game felt like a whole new world? The games had three lives, no save points, no in-game purchases! Each game, with its original box and instruction manual, was a work of art in its own right. Computer games were much, much more than just downloadable objects on a screen. Games from the 1980s were products people dreamt of. You could touch them and daydream about them.  Perhaps you could buy a computer game with your weekly pocket money, people wondered in many places.

Retromania, a travelling event produced by The Computer Museum of Kallio

Retromania brings the classics from the golden age of computer culture straight to your business, educational institution or your own event. The gaming event takes participants on a journey back in time – and this time, the games aren’t played on emulators or modern consoles. You’ll get to experience these classics on original computers and gaming consoles straight from the 1980s!

Atari, Amstrad, Commodore, Apple, Spectrum… all these and many others were popular devices for which games were released. At The Computer Museum of Kallio, we still believe that games which were good back then are still good today. Playing on the original hardware amidst the immersive atmosphere of computer culture is an experience that is not easily replicated in the modern day.

It’s the show about games and culture that works everywhere!

Retromania is ideal for an on-site workplace wellbeing day, a team-building day, a staff event, a school day, a theme day, a trade fair or as part of any other event. Retromania requires no prior experience from participants or organisers – the most important thing is curiosity and a desire to try out classic games from a bygone era as part of computer culture. It is designed to entertain everyone, regardless of their background. Even if you need to manage super interesting on your site in Berlin, Dublin or Prague, this event can be build in a day for you!

How does Retromania work in practice?

Retromania gaming events are designed to be hassle-free to organise. No technical skills are required. To maximize the easiness, Retromania events utilises the ‘Single-Switch-On’ solution developed by The Computer Museum of Kallio. ‘Single-Switch-On’ enables the events are started by just pressing a button and switched off by pressing the same button. The organiser simply needs to select suitable premises, provided they have at least some tables ready.

The staff from The Computer Museum of Kallio will handle transport, set up the equipment so that it is ready for use, and remove the equipment and props at the end of the event.

The costs of Retromania

The Kallio Computer Museum lends equipment and games to the Retromania event free of charge. The Retromania organisers have no concerns, for example, about the equipment getting broken.

Costs arise from logistics. To get Retromania to the venue, freight kilometres and set-up work are required. Retromania’s costs are fixed, so there’s no need to worry about any surprises. Producing a single day of Retromania requires work that depends on the event duration in international deliveries. But Retromania is more than games only, it's a show were gaming experiences are included. There is no other show like Retromania is..

Retromania’s events are always planned in advance in collaboration with the client. During the planning meeting, we review the timetables, costs and implementation. Based on this, a plan is drawn up, which serves as the basis for carrying out Retromania. No technical expertise is required from the client. The Single-Switch-On solution makes organising Retromania effortless, and museum staff are on hand to oversee the event’s execution.
